Large antique Victorian dolls house in the manner of Silber & Fleming circa 1870.
Owner’s comments:
This large Silber and Fleming style house stands 38 inches tall and 26 inches wide. I get the feeling that it’s circa 1870. It came to me with all original papers and Evans and Cartwright fireplaces and a cooker. The inside door has my creation of curtains made from antique dotted Swiss fabric with a netted background. I tied them back with a silk ribbon and aged them with fabric dye. I added the painted mullions to the glass windows.
There are 3 stories with 2 rooms on each floor. The left hand side rooms are staircase and staircase landings. These landings are large enough to decorate. They are 8 inches across the front and 10 inches deep. I have added an attic to allow for storage on the top floor staircase room. I have found that I can display too tall dolls in the staircase area…their lower body on one floor and their upper body extends to the next floor up.
The large rooms on the right are 16 inches wide and 10 inches deep. The canopy bed on the top floor is made by Westacre village industries (uk circa 1920 to 30). The dolls are a mix of originally clothed China head dolls from 1860 to 1830 to 1850 Grodnertals. The larger middle room has a beaded carpet that probably came off a foot stool. The sterling tea service gives the room a formal feel.
The bottom floor kitchen has treen for dishes and an Evans and Cartwright cooker. The stair landing on the first floor has a black Grodnertal who is difficult to see! The little purple velvet coat hanging in this entry way is one of my favorite pieces…it is finished in feather stitching. The older woman in the kitchen is all wood carved as well as the man coming up the stairs on the top floor staircase. I thought they were an interesting twist to the regular doll inhabitants.
