Vintage Triang ‘Ultra Modern’ No.53 Dolls House from 1935.

Owner’s comments:

Number 53 is the largest in a range of five houses described as the Ultra Modern Range. It is said that they were influenced by the architecture of Miles van der Roche ,director of the German Bauhaus. This range was not popular and only produced for four and a half years. Number 53 was probably the least popular due to its large size and its cost of 55 shillings which was a weeks wages for an average family. Another problem was that most dolls house furniture was mock Tudor or Victorian in style and simply didn’t look right. There was also the factor, even today, that people have an image of a dolls house with a Georgian or Victorian look. This range is highly sought after after now.
